Diary #6 – 17th August 2025
This morning started with an 8km run.
I felt good and managed to keep a steady pace.
Since my family stayed over at a relative’s house, I took care of the laundry myself today.
I washed the bedding—duvet and pillow covers included—and the house felt a little fresher afterward.
I spent some time relaxing on the sofa with a book.
It’s been a while since I read like that.
The essay was about someone’s solo trip to a tropical island, and as I read, I almost felt like I was traveling along with them.
For breakfast, I had a fried egg sandwich.
Lunch was a hot dog, an egg sandwich, and marinated summer vegetables.
Dinner was tuna, boiled komatsuna, and an okra rice bowl.
Spending time alone in this big house, I couldn’t help but feel waves of loneliness.
At one point, I even felt my breath quicken and broke into a nervous sweat.
Moments like that remind me how important it is to be with my family.
In the afternoon, a headache came on.
At first I worried it might be heatstroke, but I don’t think that was the case.
It’s probably the usual headache I get every few months, often triggered by tiredness or low pressure.
The combination of the headache and being alone made the evening feel heavier than usual.
Normally, our house is lively with five people, so the silence felt even more striking.
But later at night, my wife and kids came home, cheerful and safe.
I felt truly grateful for that. Just knowing someone is home brings an immense sense of comfort.
Today reminded me of how precious that feeling really is.
